WHAT IS THE NWP TEACHER CENTER?
The NWP (Northern Westchester Putnam Teacher Center) is a consortium
of 6 school districts (Brewster, Carmel, Putnam Valley, North Salem, Somers
and Yorktown) plus 3 private schools ( The Melrose School in Brewster, St.
Joseph's in Croton Falls and the Westchester Exceptional Childrens School
in Purdys. The population served by the Center is approximately 1500 teachers
and administrators governed by a board made up of a minimum of 51% teachers
appointed by the bargaining unit. The Center also provides support for non-teaching
staff and parent organizations.
The location of the Center office is in the Projects Building on the BOCES
Campus in Yorktown.
WHY ARE WE HERE?
The primary function of the Center is to provide professional development
to its members in response to the needs of the teachers, students and districts.
This Center delivers its services to the members on their site or at a central
location that would provide the best service to all the members.
